NYC Volunteer Work

Volunteering has always been a part of who I am since I could remember. My parents instilled a sense of servant leadership especially giving of one's time to help others. They instilled a notion of investing in people. Becoming a part of the New York City Community Board was something I knew I could do and had to do. I applied in 2018-2019 while attending all but one of the meetings from the Bronx Community Board #6. Interviewing with John Sanchez, I immediately recognized many of the same values that my parents had stressed all of my life.

I started my term with newly voted term limits in 2019-2020. We quickly got to work on many items that needed addressing emerging from the work in the subcommittees. It has been a rollercoaster of a year with the pandemic abruptly changing everything in March 2020. But we still kept on going with the meetings held on Zoom and the documents sent digitally.

Joining your New York City Community Board gives you a front-row seat to how your local government works. While the federal government governs over the nation, the state government over the state, and the city over the city, the local Community Board gives the green light to what to do with vacant land or to convert a two-way street into a one-way. BxCB6 does a lot between offering scholarships to food distributions to cleaning up local parks to forwarding concerns to elected officials -- even if you do not reside in the BxCB6 region you are 1000% welcome to reach out to us and we can help find what you need or point you in the right direction.

An example of what Bronx CB #6 has supported is the renovation Quarry Ballfields. There are very few options for local schools to play a real, local game (aside from hopping over to another borough or to Randall's Island). Click below to follow this project!

The NYPD 48th Precinct

The mission of the 48th Precinct Community Council is to establish and maintain working partnerships between the NYPD 48th Precinct and community members.

2021 progressed with reopenings and mass vaccinations. A sense of normalcy is starting to return, and community partnerships with our law enforcement are very much needed to work in tandem to help in that process.
